Ada County to offer an informational session on the Circuit Breaker Program; make sure your county is involved.

If you’ve lived in Idaho even for a short time, you should be aware of the growth and impact housing costs and property taxes have had on residents. As family caregivers, we do not need to add this to our extensive list of worries. Currently, there is a Circuit Breaker program that some individuals can apply for, those being seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, all of whom are living on a fixed income.

We received an email from Ada County Assessor Robert McQuade and Ada County Commissioner, Diana Lachiondo notifying us that they will be hosting an informational session and idea-sharing on January 24, 2020 at the Ada County Courthouse.

This is not just an Ada County issue, and to get legislation pushed through more Idaho counties need to participate. Check to see if your county is working on modifying the current tax benefit offered (which has not changed since 2006).

Here is the email we’ve received from Ada County Assessor and Commissioner.

**********

Many seniors, veterans and those with disabilities are living on fixed incomes here in Ada County. As the population continues to grow and pressures on budgets increase in our communities, we have increasingly heard concerns from residents about their challenges to pay property tax bills.

Ada County has heard those concerns, and we are actively working on plans to increase the value of the Property Tax Reduction (Circuit Breaker) program. While the maximum income limit has been raised each year, the current tax benefits have not increased since 2006; so it’s time for this legislation to accurately reflect today’s market.

We also know, however, that many local residents in need may not be aware that they are eligible for the existing program administered through the Ada County Assessor’s Office. That’s where you come in.   We’d like your ideas and your assistance to engage eligible Ada County residents in this important program

Please join us for an information session and idea-sharing on
